Once a bird has made a nest in a give location, it is a strong indicator that they feel safe and comfortable there. They are also able to find enough food around that same location for them to feel it is the best place for them to stay for a while. You may feel that there isn’t much you can do but tolerate birds once they have made such a nest. However, that simply isn’t true.
There are several different ways you can go about repelling a bird from the nest it has created. If the nest is in a location where you can reach it, then knock it down. This is going to cause them to return to a place where there is no longer the safety for them. Some birds though are stubborn and instead of moving on they will start to rebuild. It may amaze you to see that they can accomplish this in just a few days.
The use of ultrasonic devices can help to get them to leave the nest on their own will. The sounds that are released from these devices aren’t harmful to birds but they aren’t’ something that they are able to continue to be around. They will be driven from their nests and you won’t have to worry about other birds taking them over either.
It is important to note that it can be several days after you install ultrasonic devices before the birds will go away permanently. They have a tolerance that can last for a few days so you need to be patient as well. Some people remove the devices if they don’t work immediately but if you give them time they will work like they were designed to.
Adding scarers to the area where the birds have created nests can get rid of them as well. The movements of these visual aids are going to result in them feeling very uncomfortable. They aren’t going to be able to stay there when they feel their own safety is in question. You do want to put these scarers up before the birds lay eggs though. Otherwise it will be harder to get them to leave due to their instinct to protect those eggs.
If the birds have built their homes in trees, add stuffed owls to them branches. That is definitely going to result in making the bird take flight from the nest. Initially these birds may want to return to see if they can get to their nests. However, after they realize that the owl is always going to be there, they will leave and never return.
It is important to try to find the right method to use on a given type of bird. The different types of birds will all react differently to various repellent methods. As you explore them, you can come up with those that do work well. One that is known to work on all types of birds is the use of additives. This will alter the taste of the foods they consume in the area. It won’t poison them but they will move on to find food that tastes better to them.
