Woodpecker Control
How to get rid of pesky woodpeckers from your property, home or garden.
Cutting down the tree isn’t the most effective method of woodpecker control. Yet they can start to drive you insane with the constant noise. The damages these birds can do is unbelievable. They can destroy trees in your yard but they can also decide to take over a part of your home. You don’t want to end up with costly repair bills because of that.
Taking matters into your own hands is important if you are tired of dealing with such a stressful situation. There are many different types of woodpeckers out there but these measures you can take will work for all of them. Netting is very durable and it can be just what you need to keep these birds from your structures. They won’t be able to penetrate the fibers and they will quickly give up trying, moving to something else that is easier to access.
You will find that netting is very simple to put into place and then to secure. It is going to do well with the test of time and it won’t become brittle if the sun is shining down on it. Netting can be offered in lots of colors too so it blends well. People aren’t going to drive up to your home or your barn and notice that you have some type of netting covering it.
You can use the same concept with applying plastic covering and securing it in place. Remember, woodpeckers are trying to get to a source of wood and they won’t work through plastic to get to it. Plastic is also affordable and simple enough to work with. You do need to make sure you use a good quality plastic though that is thick. If it is too thin the wind could tear it, giving the woodpeckers the access to the wood that they have been searching for.
When it comes to getting woodpeckers out of trees or to leave them alone, you need to make it smell bad and taste bad to them. There are many methods you can use for this that won’t damage the trees either. For example you can place some mothballs in crevices of the trees. Change them several times per year.
There are many products that you can smear on trees and it will make them taste terrible to woodpeckers. No matter how eager they happen to be in order to get to a particular source, they aren’t going to do it if they don’t like the way it tastes to them.
If you have a summer home, you need to keep in mind that woodpeckers could damage it as well. Take adequate measures to protect that home as well for when you aren’t around it. They also tend to like the wood that barns are made from so always take the time to put preventative measures in place there too.
You may need the help of professionals to remove woodpeckers from a given area. They are among the hardest of birds to deter when they have their mind on remaining in a given area. It can take plenty of effort and lots of consistency for them to realize they aren’t welcome in a given location. Make the most of your own efforts as well as those that professionals can offer you. The longer woodpeckers stick around the harder it will become to get them to leave.
