There are many methods you can use for this that won’t damage the trees either. For example you can place some mothballs in crevices of the trees. Change them several times per year.

There are many products that you can smear on trees and it will make them taste terrible to woodpeckers. No matter how eager they happen to be in order to get to a particular source, they aren’t going to do it if they don’t like the way it tastes to them.

If you have a summer home, you need to keep in mind that woodpeckers could damage it as well. Take adequate measures to protect that home as well for when you aren’t around it. They also tend to like the wood that barns are made from so always take the time to put preventative measures in place there too.
